Beginners Tabletop Rally - 13th Feb - Hinton Charterhouse

We had 11 "crews" attempt the tabletop last night at the Rose & Crown, Hinton Charterhouse and if there had been space I could have had another 3. I didn't realise how popular tabletops were.

Well done to Mike Burrows for the overall win and to John Leigh/Nick Eccles and Mark Griffith for heading up the novices. (In fact if John & Nick hadn't mistyped one of the spot heights they would have pipped the very experienced Paul Waterton!)

A big thank you to Martin Moore or agreeing to help the novices rather than compete and to Nick Chapman for stepping in to marshal as the timekeeper.

Many thanks to everyone that came. Mark Dunkerley

Autumn Autotest - 25th Sept 2016

RESULTS

A big well done to Brian Sharpe for taking FTD in the road going micra. The sharp(e) showers helped offset the power and grip deficits to the fastest classes and a penalty free run all day took the award away from Bert Greenaway in his Bertone special by under 5 marks.

Carl Dale secured the fastest clubman award in his minisport special and a special mention must go the other clubmen who made up class E in the MX5's. I understand Sunday was Richard and John's first attempts at autotesting and only Ben's second and they seemed to have got the hang of it very well.

The final award winner was Steve Connor in the PCA class. Having agreed to double drive in Mike Burrow's Puma he got to grips with it quickly and took the class award.

A big thank you again to all of the marshals that made the event run smoothly. Over the coming weeks I'll be posting photos and videos of the event on the Autotest page.

Summer Autosolo - 21st Aug 2016

Sunday saw another successful Autosolo at Kemble. In very good weather, until the very last test which saw some rain. As you can see in the results some of the drivers relished the slippery conditions.

A full set of 4 courses were laid out, including a new "nadgery" bit on some greasy concrete which increased the variety.

A new name to Autosolo was Sam Williams in his Scooby, who took overall honours. Sam admitted that he had got the bug back, having decided not to sell the car after not competed for some 6 years or so.

Congratulations also go to our own Ben Griffin in his very quick Peugeot who was the fastest in the Clubmans event and a very creditable 6th. overall.

The Summer Autosolo was also the nominated inter-association round with teams from the ASWMC, ACSMC and AWMMC competing. The winners were the ACSMC team beating the AWMMC team by 11.9 seconds.

Full results are available on the Autosolo page.

Mendip Meander 3

The format hopes to take crews around the countryside on an unhurried, untimed drive to areas that they might otherwise not visit. The route to be followed is described in a straightforward form - mainly tulip diagrams but with variations thrown in. To provide a competitive element crews are required to look out for certain features along the way
which relate to the list of questions given at the start. The crew able to interpret the clues and answer the most correctly are deemed the winners.

Food and drink will be available at the start and finish venues (more info later) although this will be up to individuals to arrange. Competitors may leave the start at any time between 2pm and 3pm. The total length of the drive will be about 20/25 miles and should take a couple of hours.

Further details are available on the Mendip Meander Event Page.

Dave Whittock is once again organising a Jogularity Rally around Somerset on Sunday 24th April, starting and finishing at Orchardleigh Golf Club, Frome.

This will be a simple introduction to jogularity type navigation that is widely used on classic and road events.

You will be issued with route instructions in a road book (complete with marked maps in case you get lost) giving you intermediate and total mileages (no trip meter required) to landmarks and/or junctions, plus the time you should arrive at that point.

What we will do is to set up intermediate and time controls at certain landmarks and you need to arrive on time. For lateness or early arrival you will collect penalties.

Entries are now open on the forms below. Further details are on the Jogularity page.

RESULTS - January Navigational Scatter - 8th Jan 2016

Eight crews took part in the January Scatter, organised very well by Mike Patton and John Earl.

Most navigators found it harder than it first looked, but at the finish stories and banter was the order. George Mullins a past Festival winner, this time navigating Pete Elkins found the going not to his liking which showed in the results.

Ross Whittock this time navigating for his mother, brave lad, had an adventurous evening when the Landrover they were competing in cried enough, so Ross legged it home to collect the ever faithful Rover, first to tow in the Landrover then continue to complete the Scatter.

Both Martin and Mark were on the case but mention must also go to Steph Whittock who on her first time on the maps navigated her dad into third position.

Update - Festival Rally - 27/28th Feb 2016

The Bath Festival Rally 2016 has been granted approval by the MSA to run a 70 car entry.

With 73 entries to date it is likely we can achieve 70 starters for February said Clerk of the Course Dave Whittock.

We have be pleasantly surprised, not only by the number of entries but the standard of entry. It will make this event something special.

We have secured the use of some demanding estate roads which will sort the field out in the early part of the rally. It will be a tough call to predict the crew up front at petrol alone at the finish.
— Dave Whittock (Clerk of the Course)

We will not have too many marshals for this event, so if you have not yet volunteered please do so by contacting Mike Patton on 07837 618670.

If you would like to put an entry in it can be made by post or through the online entry form.

Regulations for the Festival Rally are available on the Festival page.

This is a perfect event for beginners requiring only a car, a willing friend to map read, copies of maps 172 & 183 (spares available) and some basic stationary.

8th June BBQ Evening

Come and join us for a Bath Motor Club Barbecue evening on Monday June 8th 2015 at Orchardleigh Golf Club, Buckland Dinham, Frome, Somerset, BA11 2PH, Somerset from 7 pm onwards. Orchardleigh is situated on the A362 Radstock to Frome road. The Golf Club is set in a beautiful location in the very scenic Orchardleigh Estate and is the ideal location for this evening as there is ample space both indoors and out. We intend to assemble a good range of classic cars for the evening as it will be an ideal opportunity to promote Bath Motor Club and the Bath Motor Club Aquae Sulis Tour with a photo shoot for the local press and media. We wish to make use of this occasion by inviting our charity, Great Western Air Ambulance to give a short presentation on this evening. We have already collected a sum of over £250 for Great Western Air Ambulance from donations from entrants to the Bath Motor Club Aquae Sulis Tour to take place on Sunday July 12th 2015 for which we have 46 entries to date. We will also invite our local radio stations, Breeze and Radio Bristol as well as the our local newspapers, the Bath Chronicle and Frome Standard to this evening. The barbecue of sausages, burgers, rolls and mixed salad or vegetarian option will be served from 7 pm for a cost of £6 a head. Please come and join us and make it a good social evening and bring your classic “transport of delight” if you can. All you need to do is to contact me Keith Wilson on cortina830d@o2.co.uk or 07802 709131 in order that I can make sure that we have the necessary catering arrangements in place.

Geoff's Mendip Meander Results

The route started from the Rose and Crown at Hinton Charterhouse where the entrants started in their own time to follow a prescribed route and answer numerous questions along the route to finish at the Highwayman Inn at Shepton Mallet. There was an excellent entry of cars ranging from a very modern Mazda to an elderly 1931 Riley. The mode of transport did not matter however as it was down to the brain power and observation skills of each crew that made the difference. The clues, a bit devious at times, were all there, you just had to make sure that you had exhausted all possibilities before moving further along the route. It was great fun. So full marks to Dave and Diane Whittock who came out on top, to be followed by Dick and Alice Pease and Mike Burrows and Mark Dunkerley who could only be separated by a tie break question for second place.

Jogularity Rally Regulations Available

The Regulations for the April Jogularity Rally are now Available.

REGULATIONS                 ENTRY FORM

For those of you unfamiliar with Jogularity it’s simple. You will be given the complete 40 mile route by tulip road book and you will also be told the due time at each junction listed in that road book. The route will contain secret intermediate time controls which you are expected to arrive on time. If you fail to do so early and late penalties will apply.

The complete route will be timed at average speeds from 15mph to 30 mph. The idea is to encourage Bath and neighbouring club members to use any form of transport to have a go. This is simple straightforward navigation, easy to achieve average speeds with the need to concentrate and follow the correct route.

Autotest Results

RESULTS        GALLERY

After the initial threat of not being able to see the other end of the course, it turned out to be a fine (if a little cold day) and you guys put on a brilliant display.

Congratulations to Dave Cook for the Fastest Time of the Day and congratulations to each of the class winners, some of you were only separated by a matter of seconds and are no doubt ruing a cone penalty.

Thank you to everyone that marshalled today, without your support this event wouldn’t be able to run. A special mention must go to Lynn Burles who worked quietly in the background collating all of these results throughout the day.
