Quiz Night at the Boathouse March 2026

Quiz Night at the Boathouse March 2026. Won by Oliver Quinton, Stan Cole and Richard Batt

It was a great turn out for the annual Pease / Short quiz. A total of 13 people turned up to make 5 teams. The quiz took its standard format, with some general knowledge questions, anagrams, cryptic pictures of car makes and models and new for 2026 a section on Motorsport venue corner / bend names where they had to name the circuit.

From the word go there was a lot of head scratching as the traditional Pease cryptic brain made the cogs kick into overdrive. There was enthusiasm to be the champion before the quiz even got underway, with Oliver Quinton fighting to keep his winning continuing from last year when he was paired with Doug Tanner.

At times there was a lot of chatter, paired with the fairly frequent annoyed tones as the questions were proving very tough. This chatter then led to near silence as the teams were attempting to pull the answers from the depths of their brains.

The teams then swapped answer sheets to mark each other, and during the reading of the answers there were a lot of ‘ahhs’ as people realised what the answer was, and a few ‘cheers’ as people seemed overjoyed that they had got the answers correct! There was a lot of gutted faces for the ‘kilo’ answer when everyone realised it was the phonetic alphabet, and a lot of laughs when Dick read out the answer to the picture of two horses as a Citroen 2CV, deux chevaux.

It seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves throughout the quiz, although everyone found this year very hard compared to last, but hopefully some people learnt a few things along the way.

Congratulations to the winners Oliver Quinton, Stan Cole and Richard Batt , who will have to try and defend their title next year! Thank you to all the members who turned up and made the night worth the effort of putting the quiz together. It was nice to speak to you all and meet some new faces.
