Somerset Saunter

Yesterday in mostly bright Autumn sunshine Keith Wilson and John Earl ran the Somerset Saunter. We were inspired to do this after experiencing Geoff Sutton's previous Mendip Meander events as we realised that this is an excellent type of event in which to encourage family members and friends to use their cars and we hoped to see a few nice classic cars in the entry as well.

We both enjoyed putting on the event and judging by the smiling faces at the finish as the entrants tucked into their Orchardleigh Golf Club carvery meals, we hope that we achieved our aim.

Cars from 9th onwards suffered time penalties due to late arrival back at the finish.

Colin and Janet Biles  had to retire as they ran out if time due to late arrival at the start with car problems on their way but to their credit returned home to change cars. They deserve full marks for effort!

As a matter of interest the maximum possible marks was 114 points.

The event is designed to be a basically fun event for everyone that families and friends of Bath Motor Club can enjoy in the family car. There is no speed element. Ideal for your family or classic car.

The formula is simple, you will be given a copy of an Ordnance Survey map with the route on it – so no plotting to do.

The route will be approximately 25 miles and you will have 2 and ½ hours to complete the route.

Along the route you will be given several questions to answer.

The event will run under a MSA Certificate of Exemption permit so no competition licences required or special insurance needed. Just your own car insurance.

The start and finish will be at Orchardleigh Golf Club in the Orchardleigh Estate near Frome on the A362 Buckland Dinham to Frome road. The entrance will be signed

Signing on 12 noon to finish at 2.30 pm for an excellent Orchardleigh Carvery Meal at 3 pm included in the entry fee.

Now the best bit -  Entry fee only £25 per crew of two .  What more could you ask for!  Extra passengers will only have to pay the cost of the meal of £8.95 per head.

We very much look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.
