In a change from the torrential rain of last year, Aquae Sulis 2025 was run in the middle of a heatwave this year. It may have been the threat of this that caused so many late car changes with both crews and cars not getting any younger and perhaps not being at their best in the heat.
Starting at Salisbury Rugby Football Club the crew made their way via the New Forest to Breamore House. The fords were empty and Flood Street, which was impassable on the recces and avoided, did not live up to its name.
Breamore House was hosting a Countryside weekend which gave it a real buzz, and we were allowed to park on the drive leading up to the house providing a mini Classic Car Show to the other visitors. The estate Church graveyard provided a cool spot for crews to eat their supplied picnic lunches.
Leaving Breamore, they made their way across Cranborne Chase using some lovely roads to the Ginger Piggery with many choosing the cold drink and ice cream option instead of tea and cake. There were yet more retail opportunities for those who were in need of another one an hour away from the last one at the Breamore farm shop.
The last leg moved onto the Salisbury Plain Training Area driving alongside the vast range areas with some long sweeping roads to allow the drivers to stretch their legs and give the navigators a rest. The hot and thirsty crews welcomed their return to the Rugby Club for a meal - and some refreshing re-hydration.
