Classic Marathon 2025 through France and Spain
Mike & Liz Dixon’s MGB suffered from overheating on the first day which was partially solved by raising the rear of the bonnet. It was all downhill in terms of performance from then on as the route was seriously uphill with multiple hairpins in ambient temperatures of over 30 deg C.
A day later the radiator then started to leak. 3 bottles of Radweld later the car was driven with caution, having to stop on some climbs until the penultimate day when the radiator had to be removed to have the re-leaking core nipped up. Serious brake fade on the last day saw them cutting to the finish so as not to go OTL.
They completed the rally only for a wheel bearing to fail on the Autoroute on the way back to the ferry, but managed to get a Citroen Main dealer to open their workshop on a Sunday afternoon for the recovery driver to fit a new one. They are relieved to be home with their ‘Against All odds’ award!
